Alexis Anderson-Chaves, a Corpus Christi native, is a Full Time Lecturer at El Paso Community College. She received her B.F.A and M.F.A from Sam Houston State University. She was a company member and choreographer with Urban Souls Dance Company. Before moving to El Paso, she was a featured choreographer in Elijah Alhadji Gibson’s premiere of The Black Card. Anderson-Chaves studied Horton and Dunham technique with USDC, Forsythe and Graham technique / repertory at the American Dance Festival and studied Forsythe repertory, Batsheva repertory and Gaga technique in Lucca, Italy. She had performed at Vanderbilt University Theater, The Alvin Ailey Theater, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Jacob’s Pillow.

In Houston, Anderson- Chaves had two residencies with Houston Community College- Spring Branch and a residency with San Jacinto College- South. Her work was showcased at the American College Dance Festival at Lamar University. She is a proud wife and a Co-Artistic Director of AMC Dance Project with Mark Chaves. She is proud to be apart of the Bailando Dance Festival. For, this festival sparked her dream to become a teacher, choreographer and performing artist in dance.
