Important Weekend Information
The 19th Annual Bailando International Dance Festival will be held October 4 - 6, 2018 at the beautiful Texas A&M University Corpus Christi campus. Master classes will take place in the Dugan Wellness Center and all three evenings of dance concerts will be in the Performing Arts Center. We are looking forward to an amazing weekend of challenging dance workshops and top notch performances.
All dance companies and studios are required to register online through RegOnline for the Bailando International Dance Festival. Tuition and fees are due by September 5. Registration packets with festival access wristbands will be available for pick up at the PAC on Thursday, October 4th or at the Dugan Wellness Center on Friday and Saturday. New this year! Groups of 20 or more participants registering as Directors, Choreographers, and Dancers will receive a 5% total discount on event passes during Early Bird Registration only. Must register and pay as a group. Observer Passes are not included in the 20 person minimum and will not receive a discounted rate.
Master Classes will be offered Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Classes will be offered in a variety of dance styles from teachers and professionals from across the North and Central American continents. You can download the Master Class Schedule below.
Two adjudication concerts will be held at Bailando - one on Thursday and Friday, October 4 & 5. After the concert, a panel of judges will critique the choreography of each piece and then decide which pieces will be invited to perform in the Gala Concert on Saturday evening, October 6. Those pieces who do not want to be adjudicated will be given the opportunity to showcase their work on Thursday or Friday evening, but will not have the opportunity to perform in the Gala on Saturday evening.
New this year is our scholarship opportunities for dancers! During a select few Master Classes, dancers will have the opportunity to receive recognition for their talent and hard work. These opportunities will be partial and/or full scholarships to 2019 Spring Break and Summer Intensives hosted by our 2018 Guest Artists Companies! Scholarship winners will be announced during the Gala Concert Reception.
The Gala Concert will be held Saturday, October 6th and will be the culmination of our Bailando International Dance Festival weekend. The concert will include those companies and studios whose pieces are invited to perform based on superior critiques from the panel of judges. There will also be performances by the host companies, C.C. Concert Ballet and TAMUCC Island Dance Company, as well as this year's Guest Artists Ad Deum Dance Company, Danza Universitaria, and NobleMotion Dance Company.
New this year is our full cast reception! This meet and greet will be held directly after the close of the Gala Concert on Saturday evening. We invite the Guest Artist Companies, dancers, choreographers, directors, and audience members to mingle and network with each other during this special event. Light refreshments and cake will be served. Scholarship winners will also be announced at this reception, so make plans to attend!.
For each choreography submission, a Light Cue Sheet will need to be fill out with no more than SEVEN light cues. This sheet will be emailed one month prior to festival week. All Light Cue Sheets and music files are due by Friday, September 14th. If you have questions please let us know and we will be happy to assist you.
Technical rehearsals will run from Wednesday, October 3 through Saturday, October 6. This year's schedule will be emailed to choreographers and directors on Wednesday, September 19.
Videos of each performance will be available via an MP4 file emailed to each customer around one month after the festival weekend. Videos can be added through the registration platform, RegOnline, under the "Add-On" tab. Please note that each separate choreography submission is $30, which includes adjudication concert, adjudication feedback, and Gala performance if selected. For more than one choreography submission, please add on your selected quantities before check out. Additional orders can also be placed during the festival weekend. All proceeds go to the Bailando International Dance Festival.
Every participant (or if a minor, their legal guardian) will need to fill out a Media Release Form. The 2018 form is available now - please click the icon below and fill out the necessary responses. Your typed name will serve as your electronic signature. .
A school excuse letter for a student to receive
a request for an excused absence, in order to take the Master Classes on Friday, will be issued to those who request it via our email. If the student is a CCISD student, please email us their name and school
by Friday, September 28th to be added to our list. CCISD is working with us directly to send out requests to the schools in their district. Students must be passing all of their classes in order to be excused. Bailando International Dance Festival is in compliance with the Texas Education Agency for the requirements of the Pass/Fail Regulation for extra-curricular activities that are school related, and also with the Physical Education Middle School Objective and the Dance TEKS for high school students.
