Known as “Judo” from The Brothers Crew, Joel Rivera has been dancing for 18 years with experience in b-boy, house, acrobatics and contemporary movement. As a co-director for HIStory Dance Co, Joel has performed all over the US and was honored to represent the United States at the 8th Annual Folk Art Festival in Beijing, China alongside with Sharon Roberts and Inertia Dance Co. With several appearances for the JCC Show Dance Month (Choreographers x6, Mixed Bag, etc..), multiple news/TV spots, Super Bowl XXXVIII and LI, Warp Tour, and a live appearance on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew… Joel strives to become a growing performer/choreographer and an advocate of dance for his community. In the Hip Hop community, Joel has won numerous dance battles such as 2006 Top Finalist for the I.B.E. US qualifier, All the Way Live 2009, B-boy City 2011, Dance Houston: Warehouse Live All Style Battles 2010, and many more. Joel has served as an instructor at ERJCC Hip Hop program, DanceHouston Youth programs, and served 5 years as a dance instructor/”at-risk” counselor at Westside H.S. and West briar M.S. in Houston, TX. Joel is enrolled at Sam Houston State University, and had the honor in 2016 representing Elijah Gibson’s “We Are Greenwood” work at Jacobs Pillow. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in dance, Joel strives to continue to gain experience as an emerging director, choreographer, and dancer.
