Travis Prokop currently serves as Associate Professor of Dance for the Department of Theatre & Dance, at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. Travis has also served as adjunct faculty member for Sam Houston State University and Southern Methodist University.
Travis’ choreographic works have been produced locally for the Houston Health Museum, NobleMotion2, JUXTAPOSE: Arts Collective and Barnstorm Dance Festival Houston, TX. Travis’ choreography has also been showcased regionally for the south-central American College Dance Association and nationally for The Dance Gallery Festival New York and has been commissioned by Texas Tech University and Stephen F. Austin University to serve as a guest artist and choreograph work.
As a performer Travis Prokop preformed with Hope Stone Dance, NobleMotion Dance, LEON Contemporary Dance and Lone Star Ballet as well as served as dance captain for TEXAS: The Outdoor Musical. Travis has performed nationally at the Alvin Ailey City Group Theatre in New York and the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
This class encourages self-expression while giving awareness to our use of body weight, and efficiency of muscle use to facilitate body alignment. Examining the worlds of commercial and concert jazz dance, with focus on personal performance and character subtext, this class will include a warm up, a small across the floor section and conclude in a self-expressive, feel good combination.
